Eight persons of a family, including three children, suffered burn injuries when a fire broke out in their house following a cooking gas cylinder explosion in northwest Delhi's Kingsway Camp area today.

Two of the injured persons, identified as Rajdulari (54) and Nidhi Goyal (36), are reported to be critical, police said.

The other injured persons were identified as Shweta (19), Pankaj (40), Bindu (34), Saniya (9), Priya (14) and Pulkit (13). All of them were rushed to LNJP Hospital, police said.

Fire department officials said that the incident took place around 9.45 AM, following which three fire tenders were pressed into service. It took over 2.5 hours to douse the flames.

The occupants of the house were stuck inside and a rescue operation was conducted to bring them out, a fire department official said.

A senior district administration official said that the fire broke out following a short circuit in an AC. It became worse after the cooking gas cylinder in the house exploded.
