No significant breakthrough has been achieved in the kidnapping case despite a rescue operation launched soon after the incident by security forces, police said today.

Armed personnel of the CRPF, STF, SAP (Special Auxiliary Police) and district police have launched a major hunt in the jungles surrounding the district for the kidnapped, Superintendent of Police Upendra Sharma said.

Though the SP was not forthright in giving details of the search operation, sources in the police said the security forces had conducted searches in Rupabell jungle, Garhi jungle, Tesri jungle and Kauwakol jungle for rescue of labourers.

Armed activists of the banned Naxal outfit on Saturday night abducted the eight persons, engaged in road bridge construction work at Badaldiah under Khaira police station, reportedly for levy.

The ultras attacked a camp office of a road bridge construction company at Badaldiah village, about 30 km from the district headquarters, when the labourers were sleeping after dinner.

Jamui district, bordering Giridih in Jharkhand, has been witnessing Naxal activities for a long time.

The Maoists had struck in the same Khaira police station area on September 19 last year and killed a police inspector and injured five policemen who were on patrolling duty.

The bridge is being constructed by a Munger-based private contractor who was awarded work by Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam on the Jamui-Nawada rural road.
