Eight minor children from West Bengal working in goldsmith shops here on very low wages were rescued today, police said.
Based on a tip off, anti-human trafficking wing of city police, District Child Protection Officer and Child Line carried out joint operations in various goldsmith units for nearly five hours this morning and rescued the children.
Eight boys, all aged between 14 to 16 years from West Bengal, were found to be working in the units for measly wages to assist owners in jewellery manufacturing, they said.

After producing them before the Child Welfare Committee, all the children were sent to Don Bosco Anbu Illam, a shelter home in the city, they said.
