Eight killed in separate accidents in UP

Eight persons, including two women, were killed and over a dozen injured in two separate accidents on Yamuna Expressway in the wee hours today, police said.

Six persons including a woman and a child were killed and a dozen were injured when a canter hit a bus at Kilometer No 88 of Yamuna Expressway, DSP Sanjai Kumar said.

The canter driver fled from the spot and the injured were rushed to district hospital, he added.

One of the deceased was identified as Mentu (22) of Kanpur and efforts are on to identify others, Kumar said. In a seperate accident, two persons of a family were killed when a car they were travelling in overturned at the same strech after hitting a divider.
 

The family was travelling from Farrukhabad to Delhi when the incident took place, he said.

The deceased have been identied as Rampal(64) and Lajjavati (60), the DSP said.

The car was being driven by an army personnel who apparently dozed off at the wheel, police said.
