Eight Naxals surrender before CRPF in Chhattisgarh's Bastar

EightNaxalstodaysurrenderedat the CRPF's 80th battalion headquarter in Jagdalpur town in Chhattisgarhs Bastar district, a senior official said.

He identified those who surrendered as Jaggu Podiami (59), Baman (32), Lakhmu (25), Telagu (22), Sannu (25), Lalu (28), Hidma (23) and Naveen alias Lachhu.

He added that Naveen was an active member of the Maoists' Aamdai Ghati local organisation squad while the others were part of the lower rungs of the proscribed outfit.

They were associated with the Naxal outfit since 2014 and were accused of damaging railway property and torching civil construction equipment in the area, the official said.

The official said that the surrendered Naxals have told police that they wanted to leave the Maoist movement as they were frustrated with the violence and exploitation perpetrated by the outlawed group.

 

He added that a cash reward of Rs 10,000, apart from other benefits under the state government's surrender and rehabilitation policy, would be given to them.
