Eight of a family killed in road mishap near Rajkot

The mishap took place this afternoon when ten members of a family were returning from Amreli in a jeep. Their vehicle collided head-on with a truck, which was going to Bhavnagar from Rajkot, police said.

Four persons were killed on the spot, while four others were declared brought-dead at Rajkot civil hospital police said.

The deceased were identified as Nayna Dodiya (40), Kailash Dodiya (45), Hanshaben Makawana (50), Lalji Dodiya (48), Hasmukh Dodiya (45), Ushaben Dodiya (40), Madhuben Dodiya (35) and Amarsinh Dodiya (38).

One Vinod Dodiya, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to a private hospital.

A complaint has been registered against the truck driver, who was beaten up by the locals. However, the driver managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to nab him, police added.
