Eight people arrested for smuggling cattle in C'garh's Raigarh

Eight people were today arrested for alleged cattle smuggling in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district and 57 bovine animals, mostly cows, seized from them, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the cattle smugglers were held this morning from Dehjari village under Kharsia police station limits, a local police official said.

Those arrested were identified as Chhotelal Kurre (28), Awadh Ram Ratre (25), Raju Ratre (30), Gaurishankar Rathiya (25), Balak Ram Uraon (35), Bhikham Ram Uraon (35), Sadhan Agadiya (37) and Madan Agadiya (32), all hailing from Dharamjaigarh area of the district, he said.

During interrogation, they told police that they had procured the cattle,mostly cows and calves, and were going to neighbouring Odisha to sale the animals.
 

However, they were not having any documents to prove their claims, the official said.

They all were booked under provisions of Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act 2004, he said.
