Eight people, including three fire fighters killed in China

Three firemen died while trying to extinguish a factory blaze in east China's Zhejiang Province.

The blaze broke out at in the workshops of Hangzhou Yusei Machinery Co. Ltd in Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou, the provincial capital of Zhejiang in the early hours.

The three firefighters went missing when they were trying to put out the flames.

They were later found by rescuers and rushed to a hospital, but died despite doctors' efforts, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The burning materials such as plastic products, cartons and foam resulted in a huge amount of toxic smoke, the report said.

In another accident, five workers were killed and 18 others injured after a concrete platform under construction collapsed in Shanghai.

 

The accident took place last night in a building in the Pudong New Area for examination and repair, which was part of the Jinqiao parking lot for Shanghai's No. 12 subway line, a Xinhua report said.
