An eight-year-old male leopard, which fell into a well after straying into a human settlement in a village in the district, was today rescued after seven hours, forest officials said. The wild cat was spotted in the well of the house of one Haneefa in Pozhuthana village in the morning around 7.30 am today.
Haneefa family informed the villagers who intimated the forest officials about the sighting of the animal.
The leopard was taken out of the well by using a net in a joint operation by the wildlife personnel, police and the Fire and Rescue Service personnel.
Later, the leopard was caged and released in the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, they said.
