Elaborate security arrangements for eight-day fair at Chamba

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for the eight-day International Minjar Fair starting July 24 in Chamba, close to the state border with Jammu and Kashmir with patrolling beefed up and checking at all the entry points intensified.

Besides security arrangements, focus would be on cleanliness during the event, said Deputy Commissioner Sudesh Mokhta here today, adding that all the vulnerable points along the border were under surveillance.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), also the chairperson of Minjar Fair Celebrations Committee, said the SP, Chamba has been directed to take precautionary measures and spread the message among the public to remain alert of the movement of any suspicious persons or objects.
 

He said CCTV cameras were being installed at strategic points to keep a watch on "anti-social" activities.

"This year, a provision for mobile toilets has been made and the drains would be kept clean taking into consideration the grandeur of the Chaugan," the DC said, adding that the maintenance work of the Chaugan would be taken up after the fair.

The ancient monuments of the 'millennium town' of Himachal Pradesh, including the cluster of Laxmi Narayan temples, church, mosque, Akhandchandi Palace and other historical buildings would be tastefully decorated and illuminated during the event, said Mokhta.
