Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief E V K S Elangovan today became the latest to join the bandwagon of some Congress leaders voicing their keenness on seeing Rahul Gandhi elevated as party president.

"It will do good for the party if Rahul Gandhi takes over the presidentship," he said when reporters sought his reaction to Rahul taking over the reins of the party.

Senior Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Jairam Ramesh and Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh had recently made a strong pitch for Rahul's leadership.

To a query about the May 16 Assembly election results, Elangovan said Congress would soon stage demonstrations in all district headquarters, "condemning the way the Election Commission functioned during the polls."

On passage of the long pending GST Bill in Parliament, he said Congress was never against good schemes. "However, in this case, the government has to accept the amendments proposed by Congress," he added.
