A 65-year-old businessman and local BJP leader was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of six miscreants while taking his family members as hostage, police said today.
The victim identified as Ram Gopal, a resident of Chaitanyapuram, was stabbed to death by a group of six assailants last night, they said, adding that the victim was also robbed of Rs 15 lakh cash, car and jewellery.
According to the police, a man posed as a 'Kanwariya' approached the victim for some oil for his 'Kawad Shivir'. When Gopal went inside his house to fetch the oil, the accused attacked him.

A group of five other men forcefully entered the businessman's house and took the victim's wife Neera Aggrawal and his mother Shakuntala Devi as hostage, police said.
The assailants decamped with a car, cash worth Rs 15 lakh and jewellery after stabbing the victim to death, they said.
The incident triggered protest by the local businessmen who demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
Police is investigating the matter and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
