The incident took place in East Delhi Shakkarpur and came to light at around 7:10 PM.
The deceased have been identified as R K Bararu, a retired official of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, and his wife Durga Devi.
They were staying in the first floor of a multi-storey building while the tenants were staying in other floors.
"The couple were last seen at around 2 PM. We suspect it to be a case of robbery-cum-murder. We are investigating all angles. The victims are in their seventies," a senior police official said.
The couple is survived by three children.
