Elderly persons who were abandoned by their daughters-in-law after their sons' death in the 2013 calamity will get financial assistance from the state government.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat took the decision while reviewing distribution of relief among the families of disaster victims in the state," an official release here said.
Many women widowed in the 2013 flash floods deserted their in-laws after taking the compensation amount from the state government, leaving in the lurch their ageing parents-in-law, who had already lost their sons and the family's sole breadwinners.

The Chief Minister also asked officials to speed up disbursal of funds to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) entrusted with the task of reconstruction in the affected areas including Kedarnath.
Asking officials to do whatever needs to be done in this regard, he said personnel and labourers working amid heavy odds in the difficult Himalayan terrain should be provided all resources, support and cooperation on priority.
