A 70-year-old man was charred to death in a fire at his house here in the wee hours today, a police official said.

The deceased, identified as K B Punru, and his other family members were sleeping in their house in a colony near the city airport at around 2 am when the blaze erupted, Gandhi Nagar police station in-charge Kuldeep Khatri said.

Soon after getting information about the mishap, fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

They managed to rescue three family members but Punru, who earlier worked at the city airport, could not be saved, Khatri said.

Some household goods were gutted in the blaze, he said.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, he added.
