Elderly man killed in tiger attack

An elderly man was killed in a tiger attack near here in Eastern Maharashtra today, forest officials said.

This was the seventh case of human death in attacks by wild animals in the district, which houses a tiger reserve, since January this year.

The latest incident took place under Brahmapuri Forest Division.

One Warlu Gomaji Raut, a resident of village Halda, was collecting "mahua" flowers in the wee hours of today when a tiger pounced on him, they said, adding the 60-year-old died on the spot.

On getting information Deputy Conservator of Forests (Brahmapuri Division) Ashish Thakre along with his staff and a police team reached spot and recovered the body.
 

One Prakash Lingaji Pendor (45) was killed while his associate was injured in a tiger attack yesterday morning.

The other incidents took place on March 12, February 17, January 8, January 9. One person was killed by a sloth bear on January 11.
