Elderly man sentenced to death for killing family of six

A 65-year-old man was today sentenced to death for eliminating a family of six at Barari village in 2008.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Singh awarded capital punishment to Ranvir of village Barari for killing Sukhbir, his wife, son Surya Pratap, Mamta (wife of Surya Pratap), their son Abhishek and his wife Lata.

A fine of Rs 1.5 lakh was also imposed on the convict.

A case was filed against Ranvir, his wife Devendri, their juvenile son Arvind and one Mahavir in this regard, government counsel SK Gupta said.

While Devendri and Mahavir were acquitted for lack of evidence, the case against Arvind is pending before the juvenile court here, he added.
