An elderly stock broker allegedly shot himself dead with a revolver at his Gamdevi residence in South Mumbai when he was alone, police said today.

Rashid Talyarkhaan (69) shot himself with a licensed firearm in his chest at about 9 pm yesterday at his house in Permilian Building at Gamdevi, the Gamdevi police station's senior inspector Rajaram Prabhu said.

Talyarkhaan, who was separated from his wife, was found in a pool of blood by his son after the latter broke the glass window and entered the locked house on getting no response from inside despite knocking, the police officer said.

Police said that Talyarkhaan did not succeed in the stockbroking business. His wife and daughter stay in UK and Australia respectively.

The deceased was associated with a government hospital trust and had been indulged in a property dispute with a businessman, whose company was involved in an alleged multi- crore scam, the police said.
