The incident took place last night in Shamsherpura village when the miscreants forcibly entered the house of Gurcharan Singh and attacked him and his wife Jasbir Kaur while they were sleeping in the house, they said.
However, when Singh refused to give their belongings, the miscreants tied him up and strangulated Jasbir Kaur (60), who died on the spot.
The accused, later, fled away with Rs 50,000 cash and golden ornaments.
Further probes into the case are on, they added.
