A 60-year-old woman died when a the branch of a tree fell on her at the Nehru Zoological Park here Saturday after heavy rains followed by strong winds hit several parts of the city, zoo officials said.
The woman was sitting under the tree when the incident occurred at about 4 pm.
The government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased, they said.
Heavy rains followed bystrong winds resulted in uprooting of around 60 trees besides huge branches fell off causing extensive damage to powerlines and visitor pathways at the zoo, officials said.
Immediate measures were taken to evacuate all the visitors safely outside the zoo, they said.
In view of the large-scale uprooting of trees and falling of broken branches, the zoo has restricted facilities particularly in the parking, battery vehicles safari and toy train for visitors Sunday, the officials said.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department issued thunderstorm and hailstorm warning at isolated places over Telangana for Saturday and Sunday.
In view of the heavy rains lashing different parts of the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said several trees got uprooted and at some places street light poles also fell.
