The Election Commission has announced that polling in Williamnagar Assembly constituency will be held on April 27, Meghalaya's Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor said here today.

Elections to Williamnagar seat in East Garo Hills district had been postponed following the murder of Nationalist Congress Party candidate Jonathone N Sangma in a militant attack on February 18, nine days before the Assembly polls in the state.

Kharkongor said the last date of filing nomination is April 10 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be held the next day. The last date of withdrawal of nomination is April 13.

Polling will be held from 7 am to 4 pm on April 27 and votes will be counted on May 2, he said.

Elections to the 59 of the 60 seats were held on February 27 as there was polling in Williamnagar.

Meghalaya threw up a fractured mandate and National People's Party president Conrad Sangma became chief minister of a coalition government in which is a constituent.

Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has also vacated his Ampati seat and retained Songsak seat. The elections for Ampati is yet to be announced.
