An engineer attached to a Electrity Board office in nearby Tirupur was arrested today for allegedly accepting bribe to show an official favour, police said.

Sleuths of Vigilance and Anti Corruption wing arrested Subramanian while receiving Rs 50,000 from a rice mill owner in Kumar nagar, they said.

Dhyaneswaran, running a rice mill in Oothukuli, had approached the engineer to increase the power capacity and Subramaniam reportedly sought Rs 50,000 as bribe.

On a complaint from the rice mill owner, DVAC officials laid a trap and provided him marked currency notes to be given to the engineer.

He was caught red handed while accepting the money, police said.
