Electricity dept Junior engineer held on graft charge

An Electricity department junior engineer was arrested today on graft charge by a vigilance team from Bihar's Samastipur district, an official said.

Acting on a complainant, a vigilance team headed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Md Jamiruddin laid a trap and caught the junior engineer Shrawan Kumar red-handed as soon as he accepted Rs 20,000 in bribe at his office from one Md. Etawari Mian, the Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Vigilance, Ravinder Kumar said.

Kumar had demanded Rs 40,000 in bribe from Mian for providing a new electricity connection and settled for Rs 20,000 after bargaining by the complainant, a native of Sakin-Ilmas Nagar locality under Khanpur police station area, Kumar said.
 

The accused has been taken to Muzaffarpur where he will be interrogated before being produced in a special court (vigilance) for obtaining his judicial remand, the ADG (Vigilance) said.

The junior engineer was posted at the Electric Supply Sub-Division office at Mathurapur in Samastipur district, he said.
