Electrification work of Meerut-Saharanpur railway track will be completed within two months and more than 11,000 unmanned level crossings would be eliminated, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said.

He was talking to media persons at the residence of former executive member of BJP's National Council, Prithvi Singh Kasana.

The railway track up to Meerut is already electrified. As and when the electrification is complete up to Saharanpur, new local trains from Delhi to Saharanpur can be started, he said.

He also said, at present, there are more than 30,000 level-crossings in our country and forty per cent of the total casualties take place at unmanned level crossings. Within a period of 5 years more than 11,000 such crossings will be eliminated and either Limited Height Subway (LHS) would be constructed or personnel would be deployed to reduce the accidents and loss of life.

To ensure the security of women passengers, CCTVs are being fitted in ladies compartments, he said.

Work is near completion on Delhi-Agra railway track to run High Speed trains, Sinha added.
