The railways has cautioned train passengers from travelling on roof-tops in Delhi-Saharanpur and Delhi-Shamli section, the electrification work of which is in progress.

While travelling in roof-tops across the country is prohibited and is a punishable offence, the warning has been issued especially in this section to inform the passenger about the dangers posed from the overhead wires.

"Travelling on roof top of trains on this section is dangerous as there is live current in the overhead electric wires on Delhi-Saharanpur section which can be fatal also.

"Similarly, cantilever which have been fastened to the masts besides the tracks on Delhi-Shamli section can also cause fatal accidents. In the past there have been accidents due to roof top travelling which unfortunately have on some occasions been fatal also," said a railway statement.
