An elephant calf, rescued recently after it drifted from its herd in Kannur district, has found a new home in the Muthanga elephant camp in Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary here.
The calf had strayed from its herd and was found in a yard at Sreekantapuram section of Thaliparambu range in Kannur district, Wayanad Wildlife Warden P Dhanesh Kumar said today.
On getting information, a team of forest officials, visited the spot and rescued the calf after giving medical treatment, he said.

The calf was brought to the camp on Sunday.
The new ember has arrived in the midst of efforts being made to expand the camp, which has three adult elephants and two calves, by bringing in more elephants.
On June 27, last year the camp had received a baby elephant, rescued while being washed away in a river at Ulikkal in Kannur district and later on July 3, another male calf joined the family after being rescued from the river at Sugandhagiri in Wayanad district, the Warden added.
