Elephant carcass found in army cantonment

The carcass of a mature male tusker was found at Binnaguri army cantonment in West Bengal today.

Jalpaiguri divisional forest officer Bidyut Sarkar said preliminary investigation revealed that the tusker had died due to electrocution.

A TV cable wire was found in the pachyderm's trunk, he said adding that the carcass was sent for the post-mortem.

The animal strayed into the cantonment from Morhat range via the elephant corridor, which is near it.
