The elephant was a member of a herd, which was moving towards other side of the forest and caught in the slush yesterday, they said.
As the other elephants started making noise, forest officials rushed to the spot and found one elephant caught in the slush.
However, due to the presence of the herd, they were unable to go near to the pond.
The carcass was taken out from the slush this morning after the herd of elephants left the area, they said, adding after carrying out postmortem, it was burnt.
