A wild male elephant was electrocuted while its female partner sustained injuries after they came in contact with a high voltage live wire at Tarbandha village in Dumka district today, officials said.

The incident occurred when a herd of 24 wild elephants deviated into a human habitat and two of them came in contact with a suspended high tension live wire while passing through a paddy field, said Circle Officer Shailendra Kumar Singh.

While the male elephant died on the spot, its female partner sustained injuries, he said.
