An adult wild elephant was electrocuted at Khatapani forest in Assam's Tinsukia district today, official sources said.

The tusker in a herd of elephants got electrocuted by a 1100-kv high-tension electric wire on a bent pole in the forest in Doomdooma Forest Range, sources said.

The forest department took the carcass of the male elephant for post-mortem, they said.

Locals alleged that they had complained several times to the electricity provider about the bent pole passing through the edge of the forests, threatening the lives of both animals and humans, but no action had so far been taken.
