A man died today after he fell into a well while he was chased by an elephant in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, police said.
Bairagi Dehuri of Basulei village under Balma police station spotted an elephant roaming in his backyard and chased it.
But the elephant counter-attacked Dehuri and while running for safety, he fell into an open well. The elephant also fell on him.
Finding the elephant in the well, local residents sought the administration's help and the pachyderm was rescued.
After rescuing the animal from the well, the team found Dehuri's body buried in inside, divisional forest officer (DFO), Dhenkanal, Prdipta Kumar Sahu said.
