A man was trampled to death by an elephant after it entered his hut in Kuchkunda village of Bankura district of West Bengal.

26-year-old Subodh Bauri was killed after the pachyderm entered his house at around 1.30 AM, Ranger of Barjora ranger Mohan Chandra Shit said.

Presently, 60 elephants are roaming in Saharjora and Pabra jungles of the district and forest personnel are trying their best to drive them away, the ranger said.

Man-elephant conflict is a problem in Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapur districts of the state as elephant herds from Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary of neighbouring Jharkhand migrate to the areas resulting in degradation of crops and property as well as injury and loss of human lives.
