Elephant kills woman at Rajaji National Park

A 55-year-old woman was crushed to death by an elephant in Gauhri range of Rajaji National Park today, forest officials said.

The victim, Rekha Devi was attacked by the elephant at Ganga Bhogpur Talla village near here, killing her on the spot, Ranger Rajendra Nautiyal said.

A similar incident occurred in the area about four days back when one Sudha Devi was attacked by an elephant. She sustained severe injuries in the attack and is still under treatment at a government hospital here.

Armed forest guards have been deployed in the village after the incident to search for the tusker and chase it away from inhabited areas.
