A 30-year-old female elephant, which was stuck in a slushy pond at Kargudi under Mudumalai Tiger Reserve about 50 km from here, was today rescued, forest officials said.
The elephant had strayed from the jungles and got stuck in an agricultural pond, containing slush and water, they said.
The officials brought a Kumki (trained elephant) and an earthmover and after toiling for some five hours, brought out the pachyderm.
The elephant then proceeded into the forests on its own, sources added.
