The torso of an elephant was found with its head and tusk cut off in Alipurduar district today.
Conservator of Forests, Buxa Tiger Reserve, B K Sood said, the jumbo could have fallen prey to poachers who had sliced off its tusk.
The pachyderm was believed to have strayed from Buxa reserve nearby.
