Elephant tramples farmer to death, injures son

A 50-year-old farmer was trampled to death and his son was injured by a stray elephant in Hesal village under Gola police station area of Ramgarh district, police today said.

Debnath Bebia and son Ashirwad (20) were working in their paddy field yesterday when the elephant, which was separated from its herd and staying in Sadam village for the past couple of years, attacked them.

The elephant trampled Debnath to death and injured Ashirwad who was hospitqalised, police said.

Divisional Forest Officer, Ramgarh, Prerna Dixit said that the elephant was separated from its herd a couple of years ago but had never been so aggressive.
 

Attempts were on to drive it back to the forest, Dixit said adding that the family was given Rs 30,000 for immediate relief.

Actual compensation as per government norm would be paid to the family soon, Dixit said.
