Elephant tramples woman to death in Odisha village

A woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at a village in Odisha's Dhenkanal district today.

The elephant attacked the house of 55-year-old Uma Gadnayak at Kankadasoda village under Mahabirod forest range in the early hours today, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Maheswar Patnaik said.

She was trampled to death when she tried to escape, Patnaik said.

When she was taken to a hospital in Talcher, doctors declared her dead, he said.

Rs 10,000 has been given as an immediate assistance to the family of the deceased, he said.
