"IRB would be posted on the beaches to curb the increasing theft cases on the coastline. The cases of theft are increasing on the beaches. At present the domestic tourists have flooded the beaches and the thieves are taking advantage of the crowd," BJP legislator Michael Lobo told reporters after submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on strengthening security at the coastline.

Lobo represents Calangute constituency which includes the famous beach being flocked by tourists.

"The chief minister has assured that IRB would be posted at beaches to clear them off illegal vendors and anti-social elements," he said, adding the IRB will continue patrolling beaches throughout the tourism season.

Beaches like Calangute, Candolim, Baga and Sinquerim, which are frequented by at least 50,000 people daily need stringent security measures which would be achieved only after posting IRB, the MLA said.
