The defence services have set up cyber emergency response teams to prevent and react to cyber attacks, government told the Rajya Sabha today against the backdrop of hacking of the defence accounts website.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said in a written reply that to protect important and confidential data from cyber attacks, the operational networks of the armed forces are "air gapped" from the internet.
He also said safeguards have been instituted in the form of audits and physical checks. "Further, defence services have established cyber emergency response teams to prevent and to react to cyber attacks...Policies, guidelines and procedures are laid down and cyber security advisories are issued from time to time," he said.
