Renowned Urdu authors, poets and scholars from across the world will participate in a three-day conference, which aims to form an action plan to promote the language, beginning here tomorrow.
The conference is being organised by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL).
The three-day conference 'Urdu in 21st Century: Development and Prospects' aims at making an action plan for promoting Urdu at both national as well as international level, the organisers said.
"Language can bridge across all barriers and Urdu can be a medium to connect to other people speaking the language across the world," NCPUL Director Khwaja Ekramuddin said.
Urdu authors, poets and scholars from countries like Canada, the United States, Britain, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Mauritius and Australia are participating in the conference, the organisers said.
"Urdu came into existence out of love among people who wanted to communicate," said Ekramuddin.
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Human Resource Development Minister Pallam Raju are likely to participate in the conference.
NCPUL is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The council had started its operation in Delhi in 1996.
