Gulf carrier Emirates is likely to launch a flight service to Dubai from here by the end of this year, a Madhya Pradesh minister said here today.

"We want Emirates to launch a flight from Indore and are giving full support to the airline, which is also keen to connect the city to Dubai by air," Madhya Pradesh Urban Administration and Development Minister, Kailash Vijaywargiya said.

After securing all regulatory approvals, the airline may begin its operations from here this December, he said.

"We have provided statistics related to the export of medicines and number of passengers going from here to foreign destinations following which Emirates Airlines showed interest to launch international flight from Indore," the Minister said.

The proposed flight will help in the export of flowers, fruits and other agri products to the Gulf countries, which would benefit the farmers of the region.

The Minister also said that the state government in collaboration with Dubai authorities will establish a smart city on 1,000 acres of land between Indore and Bhopal on the lines of one in Kochi.

"Our endeavour is to make it the world's best smart city and our experts are studying various models to prepare a plan for the same," he added.
