Employee attempts for self immolation

An employee of the public sector Hindustan Photo Film today attempted to self immolate at the factory premises here allegedly dejected over non-receipt of salary for the last six months, police said.

Employees of the sick establishment, numbering around 400, have not received the payment for last six months as the Government has refused to give money for its revival, police said.

Employees used to come to the factory and register their attendance at the punching machine.

Sam Elson, after punching, doused himself with petrol, he was carrying and was about to set afire. However, some co-workers overpowered and foiled his attempt, police said.
 

The factory was declared sick and BIFR had recommended for its revival and some amount was allocated seven years ago. However, for the last two years there was no proposal from the Centre.
