Employee shot at in liquor shop brawl, shooter assaulted

One person was shot at and the alleged shooter was assaulted by a mob following a brawl over payment in a liquor shop in Panchla police station area of Howrah district today, police said.

A group of youths had some drinks at an liquor 'on shop' at Jainagar locality in the afternoon and later quarrelled with the staff of the shop over payment.

The employees of the shop forced a member of the group, identified as Mainuddin, to pay, the police said.

Later in the evening, Mainuddin returned to the shop with three of his friends in motorbikes and started shouting at the staff and another round of quarrel ensued.
 

During the brawl, Mainuddin suddenly fired injuring an employee, Gurupada Ghosal, who was in the counter of the shop, police said.

As Mainuddin and his friends tried to flee after firing, local people and some customers of the shop chased them.

Mainuddin suddenly fell down from one of the motorbike and broke his leg. He was also assaulted by the mob and arrested, police said.

Both Ghosal, who was hit by a bullet in the abdomen, and Mainuddin, were hospitalised.
