An encounter took place between security personnel and Maoists in Suruwapani forest of Dumka district today, a senior police officer said.
Acting on information that a group of armed CPI(Maoists) were present in the forests, security personnel comprising SSB, Jharkhand Jaguar and District police force raided the jungle leading to the encounter, Superintendent of Police, Anup T Mathew said.
Mathew said over 100 rounds were fired by the police during the encounter that lasted for over two hours.

The ultras made a hasty retreat he said adding that no causality was reported in the incident.
The security personnel launched a massive manhunt following the encounter but there was no arrest.
