An ultra sustained injuries in an encounter that took place between the security personnel and a group headed by Fogra Munda at Rajabasa within the limits of Shyamsunderpur police station of Ghatsila sub-division in the wee hours today, the police said.

Led by the Superintendent of Police (Ops), Shailendra Kumder Burnwal, the security personnel were on combing operation when the ultra opened fire at them at around 2 AM,, Burnwal said.

The security personnel retaliated the firing in self-defence forcing the ultras to make a hasty retreat, he said.

In course of the search operation following the encounter, Burnwal said a 303 rifle used by the ultra was recovered.

Fogra was a hard-core Maoist, but recently broke away and formed his own group, which was operating in the sub-division of East Singhbhum district.
