An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
Based on credible intelligence input about the presence of militants in Pattan area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area Saturday evening, a police official said.
He said the militants fired upon the search party and a gunfight was on when reports last came in.
