Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today asked the management of Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj (MVPS) to work in harmony and end dissensions.

"State's leading educational institution 'Rayat Shikshan Sanstha' of which I am chairman has held no elections so far and we form the body by ensuring consensus among its members," Pawar said at the MVP function held on its campus here to mark its centenary year.

The function was also attended by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.

Pawar criticised the way MVP (previously known as the Nashik District Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj) elections are held.

Pawar told MVP general secretary Nilima Pawar to solve differences among directors of the body and work in harmony.

The agriculture minister also appealed to farmers to ensure that their wards get modern education so as to get absorbed in many upcoming industries.

He also announced a financial aid of Rs one crore from 'Rashtrawadi Welfare Fund' to MVP to send their teachers abroad to get them trained in modern teaching techniques.

State Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal also attended the event.

NDMVP was founded by social leaders Raosaheb Thorat, Bhausaheb Hiray, Kakasaheb Wagh and Annasaheb Murkute, in 1914.
