In the first ever trial run in the newly constructed Lumding-Silchar broad gauge railway track an engine made its maiden journey from New-Haflong to Silchar today.
The engine arrived in the New-Haflong railway station at 10:55 am from Lumding and made its maiden journey from New-Haflong to Silchar and reach Silchar station at 6 pm, said northeast Frontier Railway spokesman D C Bora.
The engine successfully crossed the 3.24 kilometre longest critical tunnel near New-Haflong, Bora said.

The broad gauge railway service in the 210 Km Lumding-Silchar broad gauge railway track is likely to start by April next after the clearance of Railway Safety Commissioner, the spokesman said.
