An engineer today accused local Samajwadi Party MLA Narad Rai of manhandling and threatening him and had given a written complaint to the police in this regard.

Hargovind Chaubey, assistant engineer in Processing and Construction Cooperative Limited, had lodged a complaint with the Kotwali Police Station alleging the MLA had threatened him, DSP Piyush Kumar said.

He said action on the engineer's complaint would be taken after conducting an inquiry into the matter.

The MLA could not be reached for comments.

In the complaint, the engineer said he had received a phone call from Sunil Rai, an aide of the MLA, yesterday who asked him to immediately stop ongoing construction works in the district hospital.

Later, he received another call asking him to come to the district hospital where he was "humiliated" by the MLA's men and the legislator himself "dragged" him to the CMS office and threatened him, Chaubey said in the complaint.

Talking to newspersons, the engineer also alleged that the police kept him at the Kotwali Station for four hours and harassed him.

On the other hand, Samawjadi Party leader Bhim Chaudhary had filed a complaint against the engineer accusing him of embezzling funds meant for construction works.

The DSP said the SP leader's complaint had been sent to the District Magistrate for preliminary probe.
