The Directorate Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) Police today arrested an Assistant Engineer of the Electricity Board for allegedly taking Rs 1000 as bribe from Panaiyur Panchyat President for sending project report regarding installation of 15 lamp posts under Tamil Nadu Village Habitations Improvement scheme in Panaiyur Panchayat.
Police said the Panchayat president Mayandi had approached the Engineer for his help in sending the project report.
The official had demanded Rs 1000 as bribe for the Government scheme.
On a complaint from Mayandi, DVAC police set a trap and arrested the the Engineer Ramamurthy while taking the bribe. Police said he had been remanded to Judicial custody.
